What we can offer We employ a holistic approach to design from Inception to Completion. We help prepare the brief through a collaborative process, produce a set of plans that reflect your brief, prepare the necessary paperwork to track your budget and any design changes that may have implications on cost. With regards to energy, we take a fabric first approach, and we can advise on alternative solutions to reduce the running cost of the building. We can provide architectural drawings, 3D models to use at any stage of the design process, and we also offer a full architectural service including the preparation & completion planning, warrant, and tender documentation, and we shall guide you through the construction phase till practical completion. ________________________________________ Design Based on the RIBA Plan of Work Preparation of Brief Consultation to establish a brief and budget. About
The name Blackhouse is adopted from a term used to describe a traditional type of house which used to be common in the Scottish Highlands, the Hebrides, and Ireland. Blackhouse Architecture has experience in the residential sector, from small house alterations & extensions to one-off bespoke houses, masterplanning, commercial, education and health. Blackhouse adopt historical architectural traditions with modern solutions – be it with materials, scale, geometry and proportion – to add visual interest. A minimal, pared-down approach is our preferred option to create and realise simple yet elegant, beautiful buildings. We are based in East Lothian, Scotland. I’m an ARB registered Architect, therefore, the title ‘Architect’ is protected, with a law requiring those who use it to be registered with the Architect’s Registration Board (ARB) after undergoing 7 years of architectural education and a minimum of a further 2 years working in the industry. The ARB is an independent body for the registration of architects in the UK and ensures that we practice within their standards and codes of conduct.
